breastfeeding supportBreastfeeding is a natural way for you to nourish your baby. Papoose is a supporter to breastfeeding mothers. To help make nursing successful, we offer expert lactation care, services, and supplies to support and encourage patients in the early days after birth. Our program is provided by certified lactation consultants - highly specialized health care providers -and Certified Lactation Counselors who offer individualized consultation to assess you and your baby's feeding style and assist with education and problem-solving.

How We Can Help
While breastfeeding is natural and ideal for both mother and baby, sometimes circumstances arise where we need some guidance and support, or simply reassurance that breastfeeding is going well. We are available for telephone support or welcome you to schedule an appointment with us at Papoose by calling (860) 889-2323. Contact us if you experience:

  • nipple or breast pain
  • latch on difficulties
  • flat or inverted nipples
  • low milk supply
  • slow weight gain
  • crying or colicky baby

We also provide services for unique circumstances such as:

  • breastfeeding a premature baby
  • breastfeeding twins and triplets
  • re-lactation and adoptive breastfeeding
  • breastfeeding and return to employment outside the home
  • pumping and storing breast milk
  • special needs baby, e.g. Down syndrome, cleft lip and/or palate

Benefits of Nursing
A mother's milk is the best nutrition for a baby. Human milk has special benefits that are not found in infant formulas and protects babies from certain diseases and infections. The protective elements in a mother's milk will likely reduce the possibility of:

  • Ear infections, Allergies, Vomiting, Diarrhea Pneumonia , Meningitis & much more.

Research also suggests that breastfeeding may help protect against Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Breast milk is also easier for baby to digest, requires no preparation, costs nothing, and provides physical contact, warmth, and closeness, which help create a special bond between mother and baby.

Nursing is also good for mothers by reducing the risks of ovarian cancer and pre-menopausal breast cancer, and building bone strength to protect against osteoporosis. Breastfeeding also burns more calories, helps a new mom get back to pre-pre-pregnancy weight, and helps the uterus return to its regular size more quickly.
